Celldömölk, Grandparents' Town

Celldömölk was formed by the unification of three villages in 1909. The town's romanesque Benedictine abbey is its oldest and probably first building. Later additions/alterations lent it the abbey a gothic flair. In the industrial era, Celldömölk developed into an important rail intersection. The town lies in a very flat area, but it has one strange hill, Ság-Hegy. With a separate geology and climate from its surroundings, the Ság-Hegy is Hungary’s smallest geologically protected area, and its vineyards are an important part of the Celldömölk economy.
