Edéa, Kamerun

Edéa is situated in southwestern Cameroon’s Littoral Province, on the main road between Douala and Yaoundé. It lies on the lower Sanaga River, in the Central African Mangoves ecoregion, wetlands of international significance. The population of the town was estimated at 122,300 in 2001. Edéa is home to the aluminum processing plants Alucam and Société Camérounaise de Transformation de l’Aluminium, where ingots, sheet metal and household products are manufactured. Historically, these plants have been powered by a local dam. Steel, bauxite, lumber and paper are also processed in Edéa. Oil palms, cocoa and rubber are important crops.
